Has anyone come up with a manual way to do a database rebuild for Office 2016 for Mac? One of the most common things I do for my Office 2011 users is rebuild their identity.

While Outlook 2016 has been pretty nice so far, I ran into an issue with a user today that would have qualified for a DB rebuild. But Outlook 2016 has removed this feature, claiming it does all this 'automatically' and there should never be a need for rebuilding manually. Well I ended up deleting the profile and re-adding it, which did solve the problem. Download powerpoint 2016 for mac. Any way for me to manually rebuild the identity? Or rename the equivalent of the Mac '.ost' file to force a re-sync/rebuild?

I think the only time you would run into an issue would be if you were running the full backups on different days, or running a differential between the full backups. As Adam2655 noted, differentials will not reset the archive bit.

However (and you really need to contact the backup software vendor's technical support to get a real answer to this) that only applies to the Windows archive bit flag. Some backup software (TapeWare 7.0 for instance) does not only use the Windows archive bit, they also have an internal file attribute referred to as the archive bit that is completely independant of the Windows archive bit (regarding TapeWare specifically this is for consistency on Netware and *NIX). Two other issues you may want to keep in mind: 1) If your server is getting it's IP address automatically via DHCP, it may be changing which would break the forwarding and DMZ rules. Either assign it a static IP address or use DHCP reservations if your router supports it. 2) You may have another firewall or filtering method in place other than the router.

Check to see if Windows Firewall is on or if your antivirus or Internet security software has a firewall component. Also, I don't have Comcast in this area so it may/may not apply, but ISP-provided modems/routers can also have firewall/filtering capabilities that would need to be disabled. A final word of caution: I would not leave a PC in the DMZ, especially a Windows one. Port forwarding will expose you to significantly less risk.

However, I would still make sure the machine has all the latest Windows Updates and an updated, constantly running antivirus. This is an old post, but we just ran in to this issue. And for whatever reason Outlook would not detect there was an issue and offer to rebuild the profile. I ended up going to ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/Outlook/Outlook 15 Profiles/Main Profile/Data and deleting the Outlook.sqllite file.

This forced Outlook to detect an issue and do an auto rebuild. Not exactly an elegant solution, but all of his archived mail was brought over with the rebuild. If anyone goes this route, make sure you backup the Main Profile folder, just in case. Michaelhof wrote: This is an old post, but we just ran in to this issue.
